Saturday

Jess Dear – The weather has been the worst feature out here for the last day or two. There has been a fair amount of mist… cold and clammy… cold winds, and just to make matters worse, it rained heavily last night. As a precaution against enemy mortars etc, we have been sleeping in holes beneath our vehicles… a fairly safe retreat, but not watertight, unfortunately. I awoke in the middle of the night with one of those deliciously cold and slimy wet patches in the middle of my back… and had to quickly ‘re-organise’ myself… something of a gymnastic feat in the confined space of the hole. But we are lucky this morning:- the sun is shining, and there is a stiff breeze, so we have been able to do a bit of drying. I hope to find a better ‘ole for tonight!

Still no letters from home, dear… but there must be a batch for me somewhere: I believe there will be a mail today.

Au revoir –

Trevy.
