Jess dear, I was very glad to receive a letter yesterday… the one you wrote on Thursday. You assure me that you have prepared yourself for this greatest trial of all… and that you will not be sad. This is a reassuring message for me, dear, and I am grateful for it. I do so want you not to worry. Just try and resign yourself to fate, and accept what comes with the same courage you have always displayed for the last three years.<\/p>\n

I have little time for more just now… and it is possible that I will not be able to write you again for a day or two. But whatever happens, I will be thinking of you… and living for our next meeting. Meanwhile, please take great care of yourself and Barry… for my sake.<\/p>\n

P.S. Have just heard the 9 O\/c news in the canteen… It is grand to hear that we are still progressing. I think it is pretty certain that it will require more than Rommel can do to dislodge us now. I only hope he will soon be on the run… like his pal Mackensen in Italy.<\/p>\n

The Russians too have started an offensive, as the Finns must know to their cost: They have asked for it.<\/p>\n
