Friday evening.<\/p>\n

Jess dear, There are two little items of news in Garsden’s letter which may have a slight interest for you. One is that Joe Kirkham is still at the office! And the other is about Mr. Marlor. He is now working with Mr. Garsden for Ediswans! I was<\/strong> surprised to read that. Garsden says “very pleased to have him: a good help and knows his job”. I don’t know what job G. is referring to, but I question his ability to judge anyone’s capabilities for any<\/strong> job.<\/p>\n

However, Marlor certainly knows something about the trade and I suppose he will be of some assistance. I think Joe Kirkham is very fortunate in getting so many deferments. It is very fortunate for Garsden too. If ever you are in town, (Manchester)<\/em> Jess, I hope you will go along to the office… just to let them know how I am faring.<\/p>\n

Later. Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

This morning has been devoted to a bit of exercise… football, boxing etc. I have also had the pleasure of listening to a fine pianist in the Naafi at breaktime. In spite of the clatter of cups… and other background noises, it was a treat to listen to decent music really well played. I don’t know the player, but he was very obliging and did his best to satisfy all requests. And so I have heard the Moonlight Sonata, Rondo Capriccioso, Staccato Etude (Rubinsteins), Prelude in C# minor, and several Chopin studies. And I am glad to say that there was a fairly large and appreciative audience. I hope I am lucky enough to hear him again. I must leave you now dear. It is nearly lunch time… and I want to get this away for the 2 O\/c post.<\/p>\n
