Thursday.<\/p>\n

Jessie Mine. The weather has been rather unkind today – fairly windy – very wet – and much colder: a glimpse of winter, I suppose. Today too I noticed that the trees are now very bare and bleak: it was only a fortnight ago that the local woods were a magnificent blaze of colour, containing a lovely variety of autumn tints, but that has all gone, thanks to the recent winds, and now the countryside looks stern and grim… on the alert for real winter. <\/p>\n

Later<\/b> <\/p>\n

A long interruption tonight, darling. We have had a visit by ‘B’ squadron’s football team… they have been playing C… and as they are located about fifty miles from us, they are spending the night here, returning to ‘B’ in the morning. With this football team came Sgt. Jakeman… “Jake”, who was with me in Paris… This is the first time we have met since Paris – and so we have been gassing… and now it is after midnight and I must get to bed. <\/p>\n
