Sat. evening.

Jess dear,

At the moment I am doing very little and am afraid I have nothing to tell you. I have managed to write a short note for Johnny and am enclosing it with this. (…)

Today we have had a bread issue: the second since we landed. I think the allocation was one loaf between six men:… not a lot, but a welcome respite from biscuits. Today also there was an issue of beer… the first since we landed. Each man received one pint… at a price of 15fr. (1/6d). We have also had a few bottles of whisky in the squadron. I don’t think it will last very long!

Today has been fine amd warm but rather cloudy. We have not had much rain for the last few days, and conditions have now become very dusty: at the moment, we are living close to a ‘road’ and the traffic provides us with a fine dust cloud more or less all day… But dust is only a minor discomfort… and quite harmless.

Au revoir, my dear,

Yours always,

Trevy.
